Bike Fit

What can a professional bike fit do for you?

  • Optimise riding position for performance and or comfort
  • Reduce injury risk
  • Improve riding efficiency
  • Help make informed decisions regarding optimal bike fit
  • Reduce riding related pain

What is involved in the “classic” bike fit?

  • This type of fitment is ideal for road cyclist, mountain bikers, hybrid riders or recreational riders who want to make sure they are comfortable and are in the most optimal riding position
  • This is not ideal for those with current or recurrent injuries … that is best suited for the exact fit
  • The fitment takes roughly 60 minutes and is performed on your own bike on our roller trainer (it wont damage your bike unlike trainers that clip onto your frame)
  • A basic interview is performed to ascertain riding and injury history as well as your goals
  • Measures are taken of you and your bike
  • Markers are placed on key joints allowing tracking of movement on the bike which is then able to be analysed and an app is used to assess how you sit on your bike
  • The following will be assessed and may be adjusted: reach, seat height, shoe/pedal/cleat adjustment

What is involved in the “exact” bike fit?

  • This type of fitment is best reserved for those with riding related injuries or discomfort
  • In addition to the above the following are performed:
    • A more thorough interview focussing on previous injuries, training history + current training load etc
    • Off bike assessment: detailed joint range and mobility assessment, functional strength tests and special tests
    • Possible prescription of exercises to address strength, motor control and/or mobility impairments
    • Advice re bike modifications/accessories
    • Advice regarding training load and habits
    • Biomechanical assessment of you on your bike with video analysis in order to make appropriate adjustments to get the best fit for you on your bike.
